Handmade stoneware watering bell with a rounded form and rich glaze, designed for gentle plant care. Includes optional drip tray.
Watering bells have been used since the 13th century. There are a gentle way to water young seedlings and tender plants. Our rain pots are fired to stoneware temperatures (2300), making them very durable for inside and outside use. The design is a little bell and glazed with a deep, rich glaze. They are a practical and lovely addition to any garden. Comes with an optional drip tray.
To use:
Submerge the bell in a container of water until filled
Cover the top hole with your thumb to create a vacuum seal
Lift over your plant and release your thumb to begin the slow pour
Cover again to pause the flow at any time
Experience the quiet ritual of garden care with our hand-crafted Thumb Watering Bell, a ceramic tool inspired by centuries of plant-tending tradition. Finished in choice of two striking glazes, deep blue or earth brown, this bell-shaped vessel brings elegance, precision, and a sense of calm to everyday watering. Whether used indoors for houseplants or outdoors in the garden, it transforms a routine task into a meditative gesture—one rooted in intention and care.
Historically known as rain pots, thumb jugs, or garden bells, watering bells have been used since at least the 13th century throughout Europe and Asia. Their design allows for a soft, rain-like stream of water that gently nourishes even the most delicate seedlings. Unlike heavy watering cans or plastic spouts, the bell’s flow prevents soil disruption and overwatering—making it a trusted companion for bonsai, propagation trays, container gardens, and low-tolerance houseplants.
