Our Process

At Sarah Welch Pottery, each piece is handmade by our small family-run team in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. We work primarily with stoneware  clays, hand casting each mug with our own clay slip and applying glazes by hand. The slip design on this mug is applied on while the clay is still damp, leaving a soft raised texture beneath the glaze that’s revealed after firing.

The unique glaze combinations you see are the result of years of experimentation with color layering, kiln atmosphere, and slip technique. This mug is more than functional—it’s a small piece of daily art and care.
