Each heart-shaped bowl begins with high-quality stoneware clay, mixed and prepared in-house to ensure the ideal balance of strength and malleability. The clay is formed by hand, shaped carefully into its distinctive heart form, and then allowed to dry slowly to prevent warping. Once bone dry, each piece is refined, and bisque-fired in the kiln. After its first firing, the bowl is dipped in our custom created bronze glaze, developed over years of experimentation. This glaze achieves its rich metallic tone through a careful combination of materials and firing conditions. The bowl is then placed in the kiln once more, where it vitrifies—becoming strong, durable, and water-tight, ready for everyday use or display.
Every item is lovingly made by hand in Sarah Welch Pottery’s studio, nestled in the remote and serene San Luis Valley of Jaroso, Colorado. What began as a one-woman operation over 20 years ago has grown into a thriving, family-run business. Sarah Welch, a trained ceramic artist with a deep passion for form and texture, started the studio while raising her young family. Today, the studio continues to craft each piece with care, community, and an appreciation for beauty in everyday objects.
This piece is part of our Bronze Pottery collection—designed especially for traditional bronze anniversaries and meaningful milestones.
