The Making Process

Each travel mug is hand cast in our own designed molds with our own formulated high fire clay slip.  Once leather-hard, the mug is hand-trimmed, smoothed and the slip design is applied.

After drying, the mug is bisque-fired in our kiln, glazed in our proprietary bronze glaze, and then fired again at high temperatures to create a durable, vitrified surface. The metallic finish shimmers between bronze, pewter, and soft black depending on light and angle. If you choose personalization, your initials or date will be carefully hand-applied on the base before the final firing, becoming a permanent part of the mug’s story.

This mug is made in our family-run studio in Jaroso, Colorado, where Sarah Welch Pottery has been crafting meaningful ceramics for over 25 years. Sarah began the studio as a one-woman operation while raising her family in this remote high-desert town, and it has since grown into a nationally beloved small business.
